Tusken Raider and His Baby Bantha by Zhon Tusken Raider and His Baby Bantha by Zhon
Went to Starfest this weekend!!!

I, of course, went as a baby Bantha! And I even found a Tusken Raider at the convention as well as a themed wall with Han Solo encased in carbonite.

The convention was a big ball of fun! (hairy, sweaty, shoulder-torturing fun, but awesome nonetheless!)

If banthas are on a desert planet, with two suns, why do they have THAT much FUR!!!??

Anyway! I even took the Bantha up on stage for the costume contest, and won 1st place in the Media Sci-Fi section! Yay!
So this would be my second winner costume since the TaunTaun (which I hope to re-make)

The Tusken Raider pictured with me (along with the decorative wall with Han) was all a part of the setup the 501st Legion! They are a club of badasses!!!

Enjoy!!!

I want that in my house!  What did you use for materials?  Bison?  Musk ox?  It looks phenomenal.

That is a full musk ox pelt minus the feet! LOL!
It's a hell of a costume to wear!
Photos from Denver Comic Con 2012 (last few photos) ....It gets hot under a pelt like that!

Whoa, I can't imagine being in that in a hot convention.  Can it be made into a lifesize piece?

If I wanted to, I can peel off the hide from behind the neck, sew the original head and feet on it, and turn the pelt back into a lifesize musk ox. I have thought about making a musk ox bean-bag type chair with a mounted head.... But cleaning it would be quite the chore.... The vacuum would die sucking up 2 foot long hairs.

If I wasn't so scared of the price tag I would have you traditionally mount it and ship it up!

Lol!
The only way I think I could get a musk ox to you is if you had the form set up, and I flew up to Alaska with the skin. It would take me a week to put together if I had help with the sewing!

Ok.  When do you have time off?

Hah! Not sure when. It's not the matter of time off so much as method/cost of getting there.

Maybe all the hair is to help insulate against the MASSIVE change in temps that planet must have? Like, daytime would be mega-hot, but if both those suns were on the other side of the planet, it'd be DAMN cold.

Well, its doing okay.
When the guy landed on my foot, he rolled on it and one of my toenails rolled and sliced a gash in to the toe next to it. Its peroxided and nee-spored. So no infection.

AWW SO CUTE!!!! SQUEEE!!! XD Except I'd probably get headbutted- still, you look like a big glompable plush. XD

Congratulations on your win! Did you get any kind of prize or just a lot of photos taken?

XD Maybe Banthas have that much fur to keep water from evaporating off them? Like, the fur would act as a sweat-barrier, keeping them hydrated? Hey, your guess is as good as mine. :D Maybe they'd be cold otherwise. XD

How fantastic! What an amazing costume. I'd imagine moving around would hurt your back a bit, wouldn't it?

Hahaha, it was strapped to my back in 3 places (shoulders, chest belt and waist belt) so it didnt so much hurt my back when I was on the ground, but the weight really kills your shoulders when you stand up (vertical weight transfer of 30-35lbs.)

Very impressive! Do you have any videos of it in motion? It definitely looks like one of the better crafted "quad suits" I've seen. I'll attribute this to you actually understanding anatomy.
