This was technically my first "Taxidermy-ish" animatronic project. This griffin, named Auroran, Was created from a foam form purchased from a local taxidermy shop. I cut the form into position, then stretched a coyote skin over the back two thirds of the form then sewed it up. Pheasant feathers were used in the creation of his mane, and ringneck Pheasant wings for his... well... WINGS! His talons and head were hand sculpted by myself and two straps were inserted into his belly area for a backpack-like perching ability. I had also dissected one of my old remote controlled monster trucks and made my griffin have the ability to turn its neck and open/close its mouth electronically.
THIS REALLY FREAKED OUT MY FRIENDS!

Auroran Featherdrift by ~Zhon was recommended to me twice in one day. It's sculpted, it's feather, it can sit on your shoulder. It's animatronic. Take a gander at this feat of realism and craft! (Suggested by ~SlaughterFishOfDoom and Featured by `dedredhed)

And if all the mistakes I made and all the pain I caused myself brought you back your freedom and happiness, I'd be out there shooting the system and bleeding for you...

I haven't seen anyone else on DA doing animatronics. Must watch you now! Welcome to DA. :)

*Sigh* yeah, I'm a weird one. I'm that person who lives in that cruddy old mansion that picks up roadkill, skins it, then stretches its epidermis over a styrofoam figure... Then injects it with robotics!!

There will be a second, significantly smaller one. A BABY GRIFF!

Stay Tuned!

Hey, you're in good company. :) and I are both continually on the lookout for roadkill and other dead stuff, only we're in it for the skulls of the animals, not the skins.

One of my favorite parts of my Ornithology/Mammology class in College was the taxidermy lab. I skinned and stuffed a roadkill squirrel. Good times! :D

Keep doing your thing--it's unique, and fascinating! I am looking forward to seeing more of your work.
